On Sunday evening last in Kilcoyne Park Tubbercurry, the Under 14 girls took home the county title for the first time in the club's history, when they defeated a lively St. Nathy’s team. Ahead by just one point at half time, they lost their lead early in the second half but they turned on the power to run out winners by an eight point margin. Team captain Aisling Egan collected the NCF Sligo Dairies Perpetual Cup and after light refreshments the cavalcade toured the parish. The team on the night was as follows, Aisling Seery, Marian Gavighan Bernie Gavaghan, Ciara Flynn, Andrea Curley, Edith Walsh, Tacey O’Hara, Aisling Egan (Capt.) Marian O’Donnell, Ann Marie Kelly, Aoife Henry, Fiona Walsh, Nicola Brennan, Ciara Marren, Siobhan Leonard, Subs Yvonne Kelly, Laura Neary, Jane Kennedy, Mairead O’Donnell. Congratulations to team manager Marie O’Hara, trainer Taryn O’Hara and the girls themselves who worked very hard over the entire season. Continued success to all concerned.
The girls Minor Championship begins on Thursday August 2nd when the team travel to Curry. The second round will be played on Thursday August 9th when the team face Castleconnor at home. Please contact team manager Austin Walsh, or trainers Taryn O’Hara and Siobhan Kiranne for further details.
The boys under 16 team defeated Drumcliffe in the quarter final of the Championship, in an exciting match played in Tourlestrane on Friday evening last. Forced to line out without Brian Kennedy, and Declan Egan, the team was ahead at half time by 2 points. Second half goals by substitute Rory King saw the team run out winners on a score of Tourlestrane 2-13 to Drumcliffe 1-08. The Semi final is scheduled to be played on Friday August 17, 2001 in Tourlestrane, versus the winners of the Coolera/Calry match. See minor board notes for more details. On Friday August 3rd the under 10 and Under 12 teams will face a New York selection in Tourlestrane. The under 10 game is to be played at 6:00pm, Under 12 at 6:45 and refreshments and presentations will follow at 7:30pm in Banada Abbey Hall. Your support of these teams would be appreciated.
The parish league for national school children of the parish will commence on Wednesday August 8th at 6:00pm. All interested children should attend this session, as teams will be picked on the night. Further details from Leo Gaughan

The Under 14 girls have qualified for the County final versus St. Nathy’s. The game is scheduled to be played on Saturday July 28, 2001 at 3:00pm in Markievicz Park. Please check the scoreboard for final arrangements.
The boys under 16 championship is scheduled to be played on Friday July 27. Date time and venue are yet to be confirmed at time of writing. See minor board notes for more details.

On Thursday July 5, 2001 a very successful sponsorship night was held in Joe Dan’s Pub, Drummartin, Aclare. Team sponsors, managers and captains were in attendance, as well as a large number of supporters. Joe Dan’s is the new senior sponsor for 2001 and the club wish the very best to all of the teams and sponsors for 2001.

The Under 14 girls have qualified for the County final versus St. Nathy’s. The date of the final is yet to be decided.
Tourlestrane was the venue on Friday night last for the second round of the Ted Webb Cup versus Galway. Tourlestrane’s influential full back Declan Egan suffered a broken leg in this match and will be out of football for the rest of the season. The club wish him a speedy recovery.
The boys under 14 championship versus Tubbercurry was to be played on Monday last in Tourlestrane. The result was not to hand at the time of printing.
The under 12 boys were defeated in the first round of the Championship by a strong St. John’s team recently. Training continues for the parish league which will be held soon. An under 12 New York team will be visiting the parish in August for a short stay and a challenge match. Anyone interested in hosting the boys should contact Under 12 team manager Leo Gaughan or club officers.
The Golf Classic scheduled to take place on July 14th was cancelled due to the commitments of the senior team. It is hoped to reschedule this fund raising event to a later date. Many thanks to Tubbercurry Golf Club for their co-operation in this matter.
On Saturday evening last Ballymote was the venue for the first round of the senior Champioship. Many supporters travelled to see Tourlestrane defeat the 2000 Champions, Bunninaden, by a goal. The next round is scheduled to be played in August versus Coolera, but will depend on the success of Sligo in the All Ireland qualifier series
The club would like to congratulate Eamonn O’Hara on receiving the Irish Independent Sport Star of the week award for his performance with Sligo in the game versus Kildare. Eamonn has been a great servant for Tourlestrane and Sligo for many years, and this is a fitting reward for his dedication.
The very best of luck is wished to the Sligo team and manager Peter Forde as they face Dublin on Saturday in Croke Park. Sligo are going from strength to strength with each match and no doubt will rise to this occasion as well. It is expected a large contingent of supporters will travel to the match and the usual ticket arrangements will be in place.

The club will be holding a sponsorship night on Thursday July 5, 2001 in Joe Dan’s Pub at 10:00pm. All team sponsors, team managers and team captains are asked to attend.
The club is busy preparing for the Annual Golf Classic to be held in Tubbercurry Golf Club on Saturday July 14, 2001. Teams of 4 are needed and anyone interested should contact club officers
There will be a meeting of all those interested in forming a girls minor team for this season on Sunday July 8. 2001 at 6:00 pm. All girls intending to play for the team should attend this very important meeting

The GAA summer camp is running in Tourlestrane at present. Over 60 children are partincipating in the camp under the supervision of Pat Kilcoyne, Liam McDonagh and Chris O’Brien. The club wish them every success.
Congratulations to the Sligo team who defeated Carlow in the All Ireland series recently. Tourlestrane was represented by Eamonn O’Hara and Gerry McGowan, with David Durkin out through injury and Con O’Meara on the subs list. Good luck to the Sligo team who face Kildare on Saturday July 7
The club would like to congratulate Gerry McGowan on receiving the Man of The Match award for his performance in the game versus Carlow. Gerry has been a great servant for Tourlestrane since under age level and a bright spot on the Sligo panel for many years. This is a fitting reward for his dedication.
In the first round of the boys under 16 Championship, Tourlestrane defeated Eastern Harps on a scoreline of Tourlestrane 2-16 Eastern Harps 1-6. Round 2 is scheduled to be played on Friday July 27, 2001. Your support of the team is encouraged.
